Biography:
Born and raised in San Antonio, I am
a native of Texas, and I have called the Rio Grande Valley and South
Texas College home for the past five years. I have a MA in English Literature
and Language from St. Mary’s University with additional graduate
hours in Communication from UTPA. Currently, I am working to attain
the EdD in Educational Leadership from Texas A&M University—Kingsville. Here
at STC, I teach Developmental English and Academic English classes and
the occasional Jazz Dance class as well. I am an advocate of distance
learning, so many of my courses are either web-based or hybrid courses,
which means that half of the coursework is in class and half of it is
online. I love this medium of teaching because it allows students more
flexibility as they strive for their education while maintaining families
and jobs. I also work with the Deborah Case Dance Academy, teaching
tap and jazz classes. When I’m not in the classroom or grading
papers, I spend my time with my husband, two daughters, dog and several
fish. As a child, I never expected I would grow up to be a teacher;
as an adult, I cannot imagine any more rewarding occupation. I am a
teacher but I am also a student who learns every time I walk into a
classroom and have the opportunity to help a new student achieve his
or her own personal successes. I truly believe learning is for all of
us.
